How to Bookmark a Site in Chrome

Google Chrome makes bookmarking a breeze! If you’re on a website you want to save for later, just look to the right of the address bar at the top of your browser window. You’ll see a small star icon. Give that star a click!

A small window will pop up. Here, you can name your bookmark something memorable and choose where to save it. By default, it will often suggest “Bookmarks bar,” which is a great spot because it keeps your favorite sites easily accessible right below your address bar.

Bookmark frequently used websites and tools to save time and boost daily productivity in the workplace

If you have a lot of bookmarks, you can also organize them into folders. Just click the “Folder” dropdown and select an existing folder or click “Choose another folder” to create a new one. Once you’re happy with the name and location, click “Done,” and your bookmark is saved!

To access your bookmarks, you can always click the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of Chrome (it looks like a vertical ellipsis). From there, hover over “Bookmarks,” and you’ll see a list of all your saved sites and folders. If you saved it to the Bookmarks bar, it will be visible there for quick access. You can also press Ctrl + Shift + O (or Cmd + Shift + O on a Mac) to open the Bookmark Manager, where you can view, edit, and organize all your bookmarks in one place.

How to Bookmark a Site in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge, like Chrome, offers a very straightforward way to bookmark your go-to websites. When you’re on a page you want to save, head to the right side of the address bar. You’ll spot a star icon there, just like in Chrome. Click on it!

A small “Add to favorites” window will appear. Here, you can give your favorite a clear, descriptive name. Edge also offers you a few options for where to save it. “Favorites bar” is a popular choice, as it places the bookmark directly below your address bar for quick access. You can also choose “Other favorites” to put it into a general list, or select a specific folder if you like to keep things super organized. If you want to create a new folder, just click the “Create new folder” option. Once you’ve made your selections, click “Done.”

To find your saved favorites, you can click the star icon with three horizontal lines next to it on the top right side of the browser window (this is the “Favorites and more” menu). Alternatively, press Ctrl + Shift + O to quickly open your favorites pane. From this pane, you can easily navigate through your saved sites and folders. You can also right-click on any bookmark to edit its name, change its location, or delete it.

Other Related Browser Features

Beyond simple bookmarking, modern browsers offer a few other handy features to help you manage your web browsing experience.

One useful feature is the ability to pin tabs. If you have a website you use constantly throughout the day – like your email, a project management tool, or a news site – you can right-click on its tab and select “Pin tab.” This will shrink the tab down to a small icon and move it to the left side of your tab bar, making it a permanent fixture that automatically opens every time you launch your browser. It’s a great way to keep essential sites open without cluttering your main tab area.

Another fantastic feature is reading lists or “collections” in some browsers. While bookmarks are for saving sites you want to revisit indefinitely, a reading list is perfect for articles or pages you want to read soon but don’t necessarily need to keep forever. In Chrome, you can find the “Reading list” by clicking the sidebar icon (a square with a vertical line on the right) or by right-clicking on a tab and selecting “Add tab to reading list.” Edge has “Collections,” which are more versatile and allow you to group related web pages, images, and text snippets for research or projects.

Finally, don’t forget about browser extensions! Both Chrome and Edge have extensive web stores where you can find extensions that enhance your bookmarking experience even further. There are extensions that offer more advanced bookmark management, synchronize bookmarks across devices, or provide quick access to your most frequently visited sites in unique ways. Exploring these can often lead to discovering even more efficient ways to keep your favorite corner of the internet close at hand.
